
John Ro Myung was born in January 24th,
1967 at Chicago, Illinois. Soon he moved to N.Y. When he was five years
old, he started playing the violin until he turns to around 14. John was
also playing Tae Kwon Do.
When he became 15, he joined a band and begun to play bass.Soon he greatly
improved. John and hid highschool friend, John Petrucci
decided to go to the Berklee College of Music. They entered the college,
and there they met a drummer,Mike Portonoy.
Joining Kevin Moore-another Johns' high school
friend- who play keyboards, and Chris Collins
on vocal,they began the band "Majesty"
They changed band name "Dream Theater"
when debut.
Changing members of keyboard or vocal, the band had released 5 studio
albums, 6 live albums(including 2CDs and 3CDs), 3 videos and 1 DVD so
far. Before live"Images and words," he changed his 4-string bass to 6-string
bass for expansion of sound range. He got married in Sep. 1995. While
his vacation till making of 4th album, he began to play a instrument called
CHAPMAN STICK. "Falling into infinity" brings to us John playing the stick.
In Februaly, 1998, John and Derek Sherinian
(who was a keyboards player of Dream Theater at that time) started a side
project. Band name is "PLATYPUS."
Vocal is Ty Tabor (Kings X), and Rod
Morgenstain (Dixie Dregs,etc.) on drums. The 1st album is "When
pus comes to shove," and recently, their 2nd album "Ice cycles" was also
released.
After that Derek left the band and the rest of members has changed their
name to "Jelly Jam" and
started their carrer as trio. In 2002, they released their first album
called "The Jelly Jam".
Dream Theater also released their sixth studio album in the end
of January called "Six Degrees Of Inner Turbulence" and started
touring the world. In the summer of 2003, they performed in the progressive
rock festival all over the U.S.A. with Queensrych as a co-headliner.
John himself went to Japan to perform his first bass clinic in Japan
for a week, in the end of October, 2003. In the following month, Nov.
12th, a new Dream Theater's studio album "Train of Thought"
just came out.
Another world tour for 2004 has already started.
